Chispa Wasi’s Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Chispa Wasi. We honor Pachamama (Mother Earth) by integrating eco-conscious practices that support the environment and the communities that live in harmony with it. Our approach spans from using natural resources wisely to minimizing waste, ensuring that we leave the land as healthy as we found it for future generations.
Natural and Recycled Building Materials
We prioritize the use of natural and recycled materials in all our building projects and renovations. This not only helps us reduce waste but also creates eco-friendly spaces that harmonize with the surrounding landscape.
Composting and Organic Gardens
We compost all leftover food, which then nourishes our organic gardens that provide fresh produce for our meals. In addition, our free-range chickens enjoy food scraps, ensuring that nothing goes to waste and contributing to our sustainable, farm-to-table approach.
Mindful Living and Simple Practices
Our retreats emphasize mindfulness and simplicity, encouraging guests to reduce energy use, minimize waste, and develop a deeper connection with nature. By fostering conscious consumption, we support sustainable living that benefits both the environment and our community.
Sustainably Sourced Medicines
We ensure that the sacred medicines we use are sourced in ways that honor the environment and the indigenous traditions from which they come. Using cruelty-free methods, we protect the plants and animals involved, ensuring that these ecosystems continue to thrive.
Replanting for Future Generations
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we continuously replant sacred plants like Wachuma (San Pedro), ensuring that these important medicines remain available for future generations while contributing to the health of the ecosystem.
Giving Back to Our Community at Chispa Wasi
Our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our dedication to supporting local and indigenous communities. At Chispa Wasi, we actively invest in the future of these communities through education, cultural preservation, and economic support.
Collaborating with Indigenous Communities
We work closely with Andean guides and indigenous healers, ensuring that their traditions and wisdom are preserved and shared with our visitors. All the medicines we use are sourced directly from indigenous communities, helping to sustain their livelihoods while respecting their cultural heritage.
Youth Soccer and Sustainability Education
We sponsor children’s fútbol teams in local villages, led by our gardener and permaculture teacher, Alan Ccana. Through soccer, kids learn important lessons about teamwork, sustainability, and caring for the environment, helping to nurture the next generation of environmental stewards.
Supporting Local Economies
By sourcing food, materials, and services locally, we contribute directly to the local economy. We also organize fundraisers and support educational projects for indigenous communities, while creating platforms for them to share their knowledge with us and others.
By collaborating with Chispa Wasi, you are directly supporting sustainability, youth education, and the empowerment of local and indigenous communities. Together, we honor the earth and the people who have stewarded it for generations.
